01/03/2000 March 01, 2000 LAS VEGAS—NASCAR Cafe Las Vegas' Thursday night grand opening at the Sahara Hotel and Casino will boast both of the race winners of the early 2000 season.
Daytona 500 and reigning NASCAR Winston Cup champ Dale Jarrett and Rockingham winner Bobby Labonte will be joined by former NASCAR Winston Cup champions Dale Earnhardt, Rusty Wallace and Terry Labonte, as well as NASCAR Winston Cup stars Ricky Rudd, Tony Stewart, Sterling Marlin, Kyle Petty, Steve Park, Dale Earnhardt Jr., Kevin Lepage, David Green and Dick Trickle. Busch Grand National drivers Casey Atwood, Jeff Purvis, Mark Green, Jeff Green, Jimmy Hensley and Kevin Grubb.
The 6 p.m. grand opening will feature a "NASCAR Arrival Show," for race fans outside the Cafe, then the public will be admitted to the 75,000-square foot facility at approximately 8:30 p.m. NASCAR broadcaster Eli Gold will emcee the show, and appearances will be made by entertainer Lee Greenwood and magician Steve Wyrick, who opens at the new Sahara Theatre in May.
Thursday's grand opening kicks off a festive race weekend at the NASCAR Cafe Las Vegas. Veteran driver Ken Schrader will sign autographs on Friday night from 8:30 – 10:30 p.m., and Jimmy Spencer, driver of the Kmart Ford, will meet fans Saturday night from 7:00 – 8:30 p.m. The Carzilla bar will feature live music each night during race weekend from 10 p.m. to 2 a.m.
The NASCAR Cafe Las Vegas complex at the Sahara features a two-floor, 400-seat restaurant and "Carzilla Bar," Las Vegas' fastest roller coaster, SPEED—The Ride and the Las Vegas Cyber Speedway, featuring 24 stock car racing simulators. |
