Texas Lottery Commission Acting Executive Director Gary Grief was in El Paso today to meet with Texas Lottery retailers. During the meeting, he gave awards for the highest sales in the El Paso sales district during Fiscal Year 2002 (FY 02), and presented one retailer with a $60,000 bonus for selling a winning Lotto Texas ticket.

* The top retailer is Melek Service Center, located at 306 East Paisano Drive in El Paso. The store registered total sales of $768,761.
* Kent Kwik, at 2103 Stockton in Monahans, is the second top-selling retailer. Their sales were $701,670.50.
* The third highest selling retailer is Cash It Here #12, with sales of $511,629. The store is located at 114 East Mills, SP B, in El Paso.

Another El Paso retailer, Good Times Store #8, 3013 N. Lee Trevino Drive, received the $60,000 bonus check for selling the September 7 Lotto Texas jackpot-winning ticket. Tuyet Mai Fernandes was the winner.

The state's fiscal year is a 12-month period that starts September 1 and ends August 31. All awards were based on sales from Fiscal Year 02.

Since lottery tickets first went on sale in May of 1992, El Paso district retailers have accounted for more than $746 million in sales, which represents approximately 2.5 percent of all lottery sales statewide. El Paso district retailers have earned more than $37 million in commissions.

Additionally, 11 Lotto Texas jackpot-winning tickets have been sold in the El Paso district, earning retailers more than $1.5 million in bonuses.

Area retailers have also sold 68 Cash Five five-of-five winning tickets, garnering retailers $30,811.34 in bonuses. Retailers have also sold three top prize tickets in the new Cash Five, which has brought them $710.51 in bonuses.

Three Texas Two Step top prize tickets have been sold in the area, giving those retailers a total of $5,000 in bonuses. Three other retailers have each sold a Weekly Grand ticket, which gave them individual bonuses of $10,000.

To date, the total paid in lottery retailer bonuses for the area is $1,613,325.28.

Lottery officials were in El Paso to host the Retailer Town Hall Meeting (RTHM). This event offers area retailers the opportunity to discuss issues important to them, and gives the Lottery staff a chance to present new marketing concepts and strategies. During calendar year 2002, RTHMs have been held in Austin, San Antonio, Denton, Houston, San Angelo, Plainview, Tyler, Corpus Christi and McAllen.
