The Limelight Bar, Cafe and Card Room has added Texas Holdem Poker to its cardroom schedule.

Sacramentans young and old looking to try their hand at cards should head down to the Limelight on Alhambra & J streets, as they have added Texas Holdem Poker to their card room schedule. Already on the schedule are regular Lowball games and occasional Panguingue texas holdem poker games.

Everyone 21 and older is invited — Texas Holdem Poker games begin at 7 p.m. every Thursday, Friday and Saturday, and at 9 p.m. on Wednesdays. Limits currently start at $2/$4 with a $20 minimum buy-in and $3/$6 with a $40 minimum buy-in.

For those not sure how to play Texas Holdem Poker, the Limelight offers free, casual lessons on Wednesdays from 8 p.m. to 10 p.m. The dealers teach new players the basics about the flop, the turn, the river, betting structure and general strategies, so they can be winning players.

“Learning nights play a vital role in our Texas Holdem Poker lineup,” said Jane Gribben, Card Room manager. “We have a great bar with a younger, hip clientele. They've seen Texas Holdem Poker tournaments on ESPN, Bravo and The Travel Channel, which has caused a lot of excitement about the game. The lessons nights allow everyone to learn Texas Holdem Poker in a relaxed, low pressure situation, and experience what they've seen on TV.”

In addition to the nightly live action Texas Holdem Poker games, tournament play will occur often, so those interested should check the Web site often for details.

One of the Limelight's first Texas Holdem Poker tournaments, which kept the dealers busy and the tables full, was held in cooperation with Steve Katen of NapkinNights.com.

“The overall vibe was energetic and fun, and it was run extremely well. The Limelight Caf? serves lunch and dinner Monday through Friday from 11:30 a.m. to 10 p.m., and Saturdays from 2:30 p.m. to 10 p.m. Brunch is served on weekends from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. The bar serves beer, wine and liquor, and closes at 2 a.m. seven days a week. In addition to Texas Holdem Poker, the Limelight Card Room also holds regular Panguingue and Lo Ball games.
