10/09/2002 September 10, 2002 Chef Joe Romano to open JW's Tavern September 20
LAS VEGAS, NEV. - JW's Tavern, operated by award-winning chef Joe Romano, will open within the Rio All-Suite Hotel & Casino Friday, September 20. JW's Tavern will serve up casual American tavern-style food and drinks, in an ambience rich with traditional pub culture. The menu will feature more than 100 beers from around the world, 12 of them handpicked and offered on tap, plus delicious pub favorites served up with Chef Romano's unique flair. Classic American "comfort foods" such as Chicken pot pie, fish and chips, oven roasted chicken with mashed potatoes, "Mom's" cheddar baked macaroni and cheese, and grilled soy marinated flank steak with onion rings are served with a new twist that is both delicious and satisfying. And guests will also discover unique dishes not found at any ordinary tavern: homemade paella with shrimp, smoked chicken and sausages, oven baked crab cakes with apple cabbage slaw and wild mushroom stroganoff with bow tie pasta.
Desserts include classic cr?me brulee, warm chocolate cookie sandwich with vanilla ice cream and New York style cheesecake with strawberries. A coffee station is located adjacent to JW's Tavern, where assorted espresso drinks, blended beverages and fruit smoothies are available, in addition to an extensive pastry menu which includes doughnuts, muffins and biscotti. Sandwiches and salads are also offered at this special station.
The lore of the American tavern is kept alive at JW's, where guests are enticed by a warm setting that is both inviting and familiar. While food is served in the tavern area, a private dining area is available within the restaurant for those who want a more intimate dining experience. "Our goal is to offer an exciting, fun yet comfortable place for people to gather for great food, a cold beverage and friendly service," said Joe Romano. "It's a simple concept, and a perfect fit for the Rio." Romano, a graduate of the Culinary Institute of America in New York, worked for many years as Charlie Palmer's right hand man at New York's famous Aureole restaurant. Romano brought his talents to the pool of rising celebrity chefs in Las Vegas as he opened the new Aureole location in 1999. JW's Tavern will be open seven days a week, from 5 p.m. to 3 a.m. The coffee station opens at 5:30 a.m., and the lunch selections are served beginning at 11 a.m. Reservations are not required. For more information, call (702) 777-2463.
The Rio recently opened Rosemary's at the Rio, and will open three additional food and beverage outlets by the end of 2002, resulting in a total of 17 dining experiences on the property.
