Unlv Symphony Orchestra Performs Berlioz

LAS VEGAS--The UNLV Symphony Orchestra, under the direction of George Edward Stelluto, will present an all-French program at 7:30 p.m. Sunday March 5 in Artemus W. Ham Concert Hall at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. The program includes Berlioz's "March to the Scaffold" from "Symphony Fantastique," Saint Saen's "Danse Macabre," Ravel's "Mother Goose Suite," Ravel's "G Major Piano Concerto" with pianist Rou Lian Xie - the winner of the 1998 James Huntzinger Concerto Competition at UNLV.

George Edward Stelluto is Music Director of both the UNLV Symhpony orchestra and the Las Vegas Music Festival. He has appeared with the Hartford Symphony Orchestra, the Connecticut String Orchestra, Yale School of Music, the Aspen School and Festival and the Wieniawaski String Orchestra in Poland. He recently conducted the premiere of the orchestral version of Virko Baley's "Klytemnestra" on UNLV Chamber Music Southwest series. This coming season he will make his debut with the Lodz Philharmonic in Poland.

Last season, the UNLV Symphony Orchestra was featured in international media at the opening of the Bellagio Resort in Las Vegas while appearing with singer/ songwriter David Foster. In addition, their performance last season with the vulnerable Jane Dutton with the Metropolitan Opera was hailed by Las Vegas critics. This year's guest artists include oboist Stephen Caplan and pianist Rou Lian Xie. Other recent collaborations have included concerts with the Mariposa Trio and the UNLV voice faculty.

For ticket information please call the Ham Hall Box Office at 895-ARTS. The concert is free to all UNLV and CCSD Students and Faculty. Otherwise tickets are $5 for adults, $3 for seniors and military.
